How It Works

Our CMS (Content Management System) - like most others - stores your website content in a database. You manage this content via a separate password-protected website.  Editing is achieved by filling in fields in management  forms and via a simple text editor. If you can use Word you can certainly use our CMS.

Images and other media files ( video, audio, PDF files etc.) are uploaded independently from the text and their position on the page is determined by choosing from a number of pre-defined layouts such as Side Bar ( all the images are shown down the right hand side of the page ) , Footer (all the images are shown in a grid beneath the text ) and so on.

When a visitor opens a page on your site the CMS  builds the page and displays it. This enables the system to automatically hide out of date diary entries, highlight forthcoming events, latest news stories and so on.

Standard Package

Our Standard website package - starting at £595 - is perfect for displaying up to about a dozen or so pages. The site is designed so that pages are selected via links on the left of every page - so no page is more than one click away from the current one. Pages can be based on any of our existing modules, including News, Diary, Photo Album, Document Library, Staff Profiles, Class pages and so on,  or we can custom build pages with special features.

If your website needs more than a dozen or so pages  we suggest that you divide them up into sperate areas and we will build the site based on our Extended Package.

Extended Package

Our Extended website package - starting at £795 - is the best solution for dealing with more than  about a dozen or so pages. The site is designed so that pages are divided into related areas; About Us, Our Product Range etc. Specific areas are selected via links at the top of the page.  Pages within the selected area are then selected via links on the left of the page  - so no page is more than two clicks away from the current one. As with the Standard package, pages can be based on any of our existing modules or we can custom build pages with special features.

If your website needs more than a hundred or so pages we can sub-divide them still further for a small extra charge.

Ongoing Costs

Because you are able to manage your site's content yourself there are no ongoing charges for updating - unless of course you would like extra features adding. We currently make an annual charge of £150.00 per annum after the first year to cover hosting costs, support and an annual upgrade to the latest version of the CMS.

Technical Stuff

  • We currently validate our sites against  XHTML 1.0 transitional and CSS 2.0 coding standards
  • Our sites use JavaScript to enhance the user experience but will function fully with JavaScript turned off
  • We develop and test using MS Windows/Firefox Version 3 but sites are also tested on a Windows platform using Internet Explorer 7 & 8, Google Chrome and Opera and on a Mac platform using Firefox Version 3, Safari Version 4 and Chrome Version 1
  • We can install Google Analytics to record traffic data and the Google Maps API to provide embedded location maps.
  • Our sites are hosted by Webfusion - part of the Dial/Pipex group
  • We normally create sites with 500MB of storage by default but this can be increased if neccessary.
